Winter Wonderland?
February 2003

We got a surprise on the afternoon of January 9th. After weeks of rainy days we suddenly got several inches of snow.

It really came down hard!

Even while the snow was falling the hardest, the temperature never got down to freezing. Figuring the snow would disappear soon, Marivi and I took a walk around the area between snow showers, which continued (on and off) through the night.

Marivi had a dental appointment in A Coruña the next day and we wondered if the roads were going to be safe enough to keep the appointment. But the temperature stayed between 33F and 40F and the snow on the road just turned to slush. By the following afternoon, the only remaining snow was in shady places and on north-facing slopes.

The odds are that we won't see any more snow this year. Even though we're as far north as Boston, snow's a rare occurrence near the coast. January is typically our coldest month and usually brings a few rainstorms with cold but sunny days between them.
