Before we slaughtered them
These tomato plants had their chance. Now they must die!

Better luck next year
Maybe you could wish us better luck next year!

We say "No tomatoes." At least not this year. Our 12 plants grew well enough and had plenty of blossoms but the blossoms didn't set. And we weren't alone. Even our neighbors who usually grow megatomatoes in a big greenhouse had the same problem.

As of August 24th, our area has had only 7-10 days of warm weather since May. The rest of the time the days seldom reached 75°F. Everyone here agrees that this season was way too cool for warmth-loving plants. (Where's Al Gore when we need him?)

We had planned to leave the plants in the ground until the real Fall arrived, just for the Hell of it. But one windy day did enough damage to make us surrender. So we went ahead and pulled 'em out - except for two that are a different variety. They have some green tomatoes on them that'll probably never ripen, but we can hope, can't we?
