Storm Damage
February 2009

Ambroa's winter fiesta was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, January 24/25th. But, alas, it was not to be, because Mother Nature repeated what she had done in 2001 and the fiesta had to be cancelled at the last minute.

On Friday night a strong storm hit Galicia. Winds in some places gusted to 110 miles per hour. Here at home they weren't quite that strong but they seemed like it. And, just they did seven years ago, winds destroyed the steel-framed tent at the fiesta grounds. To see what the destroyed 2001 fiesta tent looked like, click here.

Below are pictures showing some of this year's storm damage here at home.

Downed Magnolia
It was a nice 20-foot magnolia tree (5-years old). This storm snapped it at the ground and tossed it about 40 yards.

Bandstand damage
The old bandstand lost some roof tiles along the peak and a bit of the facade was peeled off the front.
The plastic furniture was re-arranged, including the pieces that ended up out by the back fence (to the left).

Missing tiles
Several tiles were blown loose and the TV antenna wire was damaged. These'll be hard to get to.

Besides the roof tiles on the house and bandstand and the broken tree, the storm uprooted a few bushes and blew a big, heavy tree down on the chain-link fence at the side of the lot. Compared to some folks, I got off light. But there's a bit of work to do and I'll need a chainsaw for some of it.
