Rescued Orphans
April 2004

It's no secret around here that two of our dogs died recently. Folks also know that we're familiar with veterinarians, a kennel and an animal shelter. So one of the neighbors called Marivi, the idea being that we might take one or more of the orphaned dogs - or we might know someone who would. |

IT'S HARD TO TELL, BUT THERE ARE 4 DOGS IN THIS PHOTO

Marivi and I are already committed to adopting two pups that were the product of an unwanted pregnancy at a kennel. So Marivi contacted APADAN, an animal rescue organization in A Coruña. Soon afterwards, a volunteer from APADAN drove here and took the adult female and the two pups. (The adult male was adopted by a local family.) The volunteer believes she'll be able to place the pups easily because they're small enough for apartment living. The adult female may be harder to place because of her age. We're supporters of APADAN, which is staffed by volunteers and depends on donations for its operating expenses. Some of the area vets also support their work with donations of dog food, money and/or veterinary care. They often have more dogs than their facility can handle. When that happens, some of the volunteers take the excess dogs home with them until more room is available at their kennel. It's an excellent organization that deserves more public support than they're getting. They'll let us know when the Tiulfe orphans find a home. |
