Miño's Feirón

Feiras (ferias in Castellano) are open-air markets that date back to medieval days or even earlier, when people from remote rural areas would gather periodically to sell, buy and/or trade things such as fruits, vegetables, animals, and hand-made items such as clothes and farm implements. Feirónes are similar events that differ mainly in how often they're held. These days, towns and villages around here still sponsor feirónes and ferias but local vendors are in the minority. Nowadays, groups of vendors travel from town to town selling mostly clothing. And commercial artisans from the surrounding area sell bakery goods and cured meats such as hams and sausages. The pictures below were taken at a feirón in Miño, a beach town near us. Miño's feirónes are held each Sunday, when local merchants are closed. In other towns, the events occur on normal business days and the local merchants benefit when crowds of area people come into town to do their shopping while attending the ferias. ![]() This street is temporarily closed for the Sunday feirón in
