Castle at Medina Del Campo
June 2000

Medina Del Campo

After a visit by my Mom and niece, Brenda, we headed toward the Madrid airport by car. We stopped on the way at a small town, Medina Del Campo, to take a look at this castle.

In years past, we had been here with Linda and Bob Grieme, friends of ours from California. At that time it had been abandoned and you were pretty much free to wander around at will. Now it's being restored and turned into a museum.

Gator Pond

Brenda and Marivi are standing on the bridge running across the moat. It is not a drawbridge and the moat is dry. Maybe at the end of the restoration they'll add some water but, from the looks of the surrounding countryside, they may not have any water to spare.

Kill the prisoners!

Inside, Brenda and Marivi are looking down through a grate at a big room below. We decided that it must have been where they chained the prisoners to a wall so they could be flogged or tortured. It was real quiet down there, so maybe all the prisoners were dead.
