VIEW LOOKING NORTH

This was taken looking north from the edge of Tiulfe, the nearest village to us. Near the center of the picture, you can barely make out the steeple of the parish church. Our place is the white spot towards the right-hand side of the photo.

The tall tree near the center stands on a Celtic castro, which contains the remains of stone structures the Celts built over 2000 years ago, before the Romans occupied this area. It's illegal to disturb castros, so the farmers just work around it. The small hill around the tree is overgrown with a thick layer of thorn bushes. The government has preserved and partially restored a few Celtic settlements here and there but there are so many in Galicia that most are just left the way they are.

The red roof just to the left of the castro is the parish Community Center, where our fiestas are held. The building is used for social affairs, crafts classes, etc. and has a bar and satellite TV.
