Laconada-2002
August 2002

July 7th - The Ambroa Neighbors' Association held its Spring Laconada outside at the Community Center and about 250 people attended. The association's officers (and their families) again did an exceptional job of arranging the affair, setting everything up, serving all of us hungry folks and cleaning up afterwards.

I should explain that lacon is the meat from the front legs of pigs. (Jamon is the meat from the hind legs.) A laconada is sort of like a sardiñada, except lacon is served instead of fish and, in this case, the meat was cooked in an oven instead of over an open outdoor fire. Obviously, you can't cook for 250 people in your own kitchen. This lacon was cooked in the ovens of Panadería Ambroa, our own local bakery which, incidentally, makes my favorite bread.

Anybody sneaking a taste?
Somebody probably had to taste it in advance

Please excuse the blue tinge in the outdoor pictures below. The sunlight was filtered through the blue tarps.

Where's the food?
Don't worry, Manolo, the lacon is on the way
Well fed?
Do we look well-fed, or what?

Deal the cards
Afterwards, it was time for drinks and some friendly card games
