Hydroelectric Generator Plant Near Güimil

Water Returning to Rio Lambre

Last month we posted pictures of a canal system that carries water from the Rio Lambre in Ambroa Parish to a generator plant near the village of Güimil, a couple of miles away as the crow flies, in an adjacent parish. At the time, we didn't know exactly where the plant was. We do now, after getting directions from our friend, Manuel, who lives in Güimil.

The plant isn't visible from the road running through Güimil. It's about a quarter-mile down a steep gravel road that begins 2 km. from Güimil. The plant is about 3-stories tall and is enclosed by a chain-link fence with a locked gate. It's apparently unmanned. I've been there twice and there was nobody there either time.

According to an official-looking Public Works document I found on the Internet, the generator has a capacity of 3,600 KVA. That seems like a lot for the volume of water providing the power, but who am I to argue? There's a big difference in elevation between the water source in Ambroa Parish and the plant below in Güimil.
