On April 28th our local government sponsored the 6th annual Tercero edad (3rd Age) luncheon in the village of Irixoa, where our "city hall" is located. Between 450 and 500 of us attended and we were well fed and entertained. ![]() After we ate, we were entertained by Compostela,
a good-sounding orchestra. Oh, by the way,
that young chick just right of center is Marivi, who came as my guest, even though she's underage "Tercero edad" refers to those of us over 60 years old. It's a common term used here for events intended for us old folks and it's a nicer-sounding description than "old farts." I'm guessing that "First Age" and "Second Age" would refer to minors and working-age people, respectively, but I've never seen these terms used anywhere. Past luncheons were held in Irixoa's Polideportivo, a large multipurpose building that resembles a gymnasium. We never went to any of those because of how noisy it can be inside a building like that with hundreds of people in it. This year, it was in a large tent, which has better acoustics. So we went. The food was catered by a good restaurant and the music was good, too. |

![]() Prior to sitting down for lunch, there was a special mass in the local church across the road. The church is
tiny and fewer than 100 folks attended the mass. The rest of us stood around outside the tent and waited
until time to go in and sit down.

![]() "Compostela" played the kind of Spanish music favored by us old folks. As you can see
in the picture on the left, their mobile bandstand is a lot taller than our tent. Their stage productions must
be spectacular when set up in the open air and at night.

It's worth mentioning that 3 out of 4 of these "3rd Edad" luncheons are scheduled for
June - but our local elections are held every 4th year - in May. And these folks are voters. Coincidence? I think not.
