It's Got a Name, Now
June 2000

Out front
It didn't take a rocket scientist to come up with this name.

For years, the lot we bought was known locally as "O Campo Da Festa", which is the Gallego language version of "El Campo De La Fiesta", which is Spanish for "The Fiesta Grounds".

And "A Festa" means "La Fiesta", but I'm sure you were way ahead of me on that.

Since lots of people around here put up names for their places out in the country, we decided to do it, too. We could have called it "Hallejujah, It's Finally Done!" but the tile letters are too expensive for that. Besides, exclamation marks aren't available. We think "A Festa" works okay and it's economical.

The guy on the right is Manolo Vidal, a local mason who managed the job and did most of the work. He's a childhood acquaintance of Marivi's and worked for a while for our building contractor while the house was being built. Manolo has an excellent reputation as a first-rate mason but he has the same problem as Otis, a character from the Mayberry RFD TV show. That's the main reason the bandstand work took so much longer than planned.
