We've been enjoying the fruits of Marivi's labor for a few weeks now. She's picked a lot of lettuce and cabbage, some peppers and some string beans. She's got a lot of tomatoes but they're not ripe, yet. ![]() My Cabbage Patch Doll
Weeding while her mother looks on Like some of our neighbors, we've picked more lettuce and cabbage than we can consume, so we've given some away. It's all in the timing, I guess. Too much comes ripe at the same time. We did stagger the lettuce planting a bit but apparently not enough. Fortunately, Marivi makes a great salad and the lettuce stays fresh for several days in the fridge. We've probably eaten about as much cabbage as we've given away. Marivi planted 20 and there are only 5 left. It's a mild-tasting variety that's popular here but it's undoubtedly responsible for the elevated levels of methane floating around the house lately. If everything goes as we hope,
we'll have tomatoes, peppers, turnip greens, leeks and a couple of types of beans
before long. By that time, we'll have depleted the supply of lettuce and cabbage and
will have to decide what to plant in their place. |
