This year, Ambroa Parish celebrated its Patron Saint (San Ramon) during the 1st and 2nd of September. As usual, there was a two-day fiesta, consisting of brief afternoon sessions and longer night sessions of music, dancing, and a bit of boozing. Also as usual there were fireworks before and after each session. As per the custom here, the fireworks consist solely of aerial bombs - single, multiple, and loud. These ain't just firecrackers or cherry bombs, folks. You can hear'em explode from several miles away. On the afternoon of the second day, the pyrotechnics were set up in a field between the fiesta grounds and my house. The first two pictures below might give you an idea of how many there were and how close they were to where I live. ![]() I live in that house in the background. I could watch from the front porch as they set off the aerial bombs.
![]() The launch pads -- single-warhead rockets on the left, multiple warheads on the right.
Once they started lighting these things off, it was like 10 minutes of constant thunder - or WWII carpet bombing. They'd send up several of the single-head rockets, one right after the other, and then send up one or two multiples that have 5 or 6 bombs each. The picture below was taken the morning after the fiesta's second and final night. I had collected some sticks that landed in and around the front yard. The rest ended up in the trees, bushes and corn fields around here. ![]() Some sticks, like this one in front of me, hit the ground fast enough to stand up on their own.
