Eating My Words
March 04

I've ranted over and over about Telefónica, usually concerning our crappy phone system that can't make a decent Internet connection. I said Ambroa wouldn't get a better phone system in what's left of my lifetime. And I said I'd eat my words if they proved me wrong. Well, they did.

Some fries on the side, please
Can I get a side order of fries?

So what's for dessert?
Marivi said "Finish it - or no dessert!"

On the 28th of January Telefónica started installing GSM/GPRS terminals in Ambroa Parish homes. The days of 4800 BPS Internet connections are gone forever. Now we connect at 48K or slightly faster. So I kept my promise, as you can see.

The new GSM/GPRS system works fine but there are still problems with the Telefónica (Ptooie!) system. Like the users of the standard (copper-wire RTB) dial-up phones in town, we go through too many dial-up attempts before getting a connection. And the connections sometimes drop out through no fault of the phone, itself. So while giving them credit for improving our rural phone system, I reserve the right to continue saying "Telefónica Sucks!"
