A Real Corker
February 2005

Yep, it's a real encorchadora. Marivi and Santa gave it to me for Christmas. Now I can bottle wine at home. |
|
Marivi also gave me an 8-liter jug and a bag of corks.
|
This photo shows the three main working parts. The bottle holder has a strong spring
to hold
the bottle firmly in place while the cork is installed. The cork has to be wetted (with water or wine) so it can slide out of the squeezer into the bottle. |

We don't drink a whole lot of wine, and neither of us is a connoisseur. I usually just have a siesta-enhancing glass of table wine with lunch. For a long time we just bought it at the supermarket. But not anymore. There are several places around here where you can buy bulk wine, and some of it
tastes pretty good to our untrained palates. You can buy it either in unlabeled bottles
or in your own (usually larger) container. Until now we've bought it in bottles,
which we took back for refills. But now we can buy it in larger quantities and bottle it
ourselves, just like a lot of other people do. |
