Little Bush
November 2005

You probably think this is just an excuse to post a couple of pictures of a cute puppy.
You'd be partly right, I guess, but there's a little more to it than that. Read on.

The dog of a local family had some puppies - more than they could keep - and our neighbors, Paca and Manolo down by the Church, agreed to adopt one of them. That's him, above.

Paca and Manolo already had one dog, Truman, but like most dogs in rural areas, Truman is a "yard dog" who occasionally roams around all over the countryside. This new puppy, being only six weeks old, was far too young for that type of gallivanting. He needed to be treated as a "house dog", at least until he grows up some more. Their place wasn't set up for this and they had never had the experience of raising such a young dog, so Marivi and I are giving them a hand.

First off, Manolo and I had to add some chicken wire to their front gate, because the puppy was small enough to slip between the wrought iron bars. (Click here to see the gates I'm talking about.)

Since then, Marivi and I visit frequently and we've helped them get used to feeding the puppy, whose diet is a lot different than Truman's.

Paca and Manolo decided to name the pup "Buxiño" (BooSHEENyo), which in the Gallego language means "Little Bush." Since their other dog is named Truman, we can assume that they're named for US presidents, with no disrespect intended.
